Washington Post reviewer David Joyce praised David Kitchen for his "mixture of charm, attitude and tunefulness" on his rock-and-country album "Low Faultin' for Rockmonger" in 1998. Kitchen has won several music awards, including the Washington Area Music Association's Songwriter of the Year, Best Song of 2006 (If Love is Blind), and Best Debut Album (Live at the Sunset Grille with The Thrillbillies). David's song "Mystery to Me" can be heard in the film "Wild Iris," and he also was the writer and performer of the 2001 48 Hour Film Festival theme song.
