Goose Creek publishes high quality multimedia productions for some of the top musical performers in the Baltimore and Washington DC metro areas. We combine live performance events and audio/video capture, and partner with ComCast, local venues, and local artists to bridge the gap between live and recorded musical experiences.

What a night!  We launched David Kitchen's Live at Goose Creek CD at the M&S Grill last night, and the party was better than I could have hoped for.  A lot of people did many things to help us along, but special thanks to these people in particular...

Stuart Martin worked his magic on the board, and the room sounded great.  I don't know what he does, but every time he touches a mix, it sounds like a million bucks.

Brenda Wirth drove all the way from New Jersey to run merchandise and make sure the room worked just right.  It would be impossible to overstate the impact Brenda has on Goose Creek...we're so lucky to have her friendship.

Jim Barrett, manager of the M&S Grill (and a hot sax player in his own right) was enthusiastic from the moment I pitched the concept in October.  Keep your eye on Jim's restaurants in Reston and Tyson...there will be some awesome music in the coming months.

Ruthie Logsdon provided marketing support guidance on how to make the whole thing work.  You'll hear more about Ruthie in an upcoming Goose Creek project.

Opening act Emma Bailey, and her supporting band of Rob Bailey and Mike Devlin.  They set just the right tone to kick off the evening, and kept things moving nicely when David's band took a break.

And of course, David Kitchen and his band.  They sounded as great in the room as they do on the record.  I have listened to the recordings from the Goose Creek show literally thousands of times over the last 7 months, and still love every song.  Ariel Francis, Larry Ferguson, and Anthony Pirog sound incredible on the record, and last night we were also lucky enough to have Dan Hovey and Mookie Siegel sitting in.

The album is now on sale at this site, CD Baby, and on iTunes.  It's the sound I was dreaming about when starting Goose Creek.  I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as we loved making it.

Cheers,

Mike

Sorry it's been so long since I've written.  There has just been so much going on.

We launched "The Sam Grow Band, Live at Goose Creek" at Vera's Beach Club on August 25, and celebrated with Sam's Manager Michael Gewirtzman and the usual suspects from Southern Maryland.  I had a great time this summer hanging out with The Sam Grow Band Entourage at Gilligan's and Vera's, and want to thank all of you for your hospitality and for everything you do.  CD sales at gigs have been going great, and we appreciate everything that goes into that result.

Also....I have to give a plug to Gene Quade's new place on Cobb Island, Drift Away.  I've been there a few times now, and they are set up beautifully for music.  Gene is the bassist and BV singer for TSGB, and everything he does, he does right.

While we were launching Sam's CD, we were also working on the new episode of Goose Creek Live for Comcast Channel 2, which began airing this week.  And while THAT was going on we were doing the post production work for David Kitchen's Live at Goose Creek album, which goes to mastering at Airshow on Monday (which also happens to be the day I turn 50).

David's album is a big step forward for Goose Creek...the band's performances are both tight and inspired, and it's exactly the sort of music I dreamed of producing when I started the company.  Co-producer Stuart Martin has coaxed every tiny nuance out of the recordings...when we get lucky and catch lightening in a bottle like this, there's no one else I'd want managing the mix.

The launch party for "David Kitchen Live at Goose Creek" will be December 4 at 9:30pm at the M&S Grill in Reston Towne Center.  It's a Friday night, and a perfect opportunity to do a little holiday shopping, then have a few drinks and listen to some great music.  David and the band will do tunes from the album, then while they're mingling with the crowd, Emma Bailey and her band will keep everyone moving.

One last thing...WAMMY season is coming, and we'd sure appreciate support from any of you that are members of The Washington Area Music Association.  Goose Creek produced 3 showcase concerts and a live album, and launched a music video TV show in the first 9 months of 2009...I would love to see recognition of the incredible work by our artists, engineers, and post-production crew.

Cheers,

Mike Pugh

Tomorrow, ComCast starts broadcasting our videos on Channel 2 in Loudoun, Fairfax, and Prince William Counties.  It sounds like we may get some airplay in Stafford County as well.  If you've come to the site because you saw us on television, PLEASE drop me a line at info@goosecreekmusic.com, and let me know when you saw us, your favorite video, and suggest any bands you'd like us to work with.  I'm hoping that we're a pleasant surprise while folks channel surf through to check out the the Community Service Announcements, local sports, and other local programming.

Sam and the guys have sold a lot of CD's at the beach this summer...I'm headed out to see Sam today, deliver some more CD's, and check out a musical act that might work for one of our shows next year.  Special thanks to Sam's merch man Tope, and everyone else with the crew that helps him.

The launch party for The Sam Grow Band's "Live at Goose Creek" album will be on Friday, August 21 at Vera's Beach Club in Lusby, Maryland.  The band goes on at 9:00, and anyone that shows up with a CD in-hand gets a free Goose Creek Season 1 DVD, featuring 3 videos of Sam and the band.  We'll go live in stores and on iTunes on August 25.  There's a cool poster in the CD that's good for autographs, too...they'll be signing with silver markers.

Video Players....We're using You Tube for the home page player at the moment, because it has the best combination of stability and features for our money.  Vimeo has all the broadcast features we need, but our fans have reported jerky playback when I've tested it.  From reading their forums, it looks like it's some sort of transcoding problem.

Smugmug broadcasts beautifully...the videos look and sound terrific there.  Unfortunately Smugmug doesn't have a multi-video player that can be embedded in our site, and they've been having systematic trouble with uploads.  I'm hoping they solve both issues soon, because their service is otherwise spectacular.  Check out the quality of Smugmug's broadcasts at http://goosecreekmusic.smugmug.com/.  The ability for a small business to webcast at their level of quality is something many of us in the telecommunications business dreamed about years ago when we were building the first few generations of the Internet.

One last thing...please VOTE for our videos on YouTube (or Smugmug, or anywhere else you see them) if you like them...we'd love to pop up on search engines and in favorites lists.

Hope you're having a great summer....

Mike

July 1, 2009 - Comcast
Liney and I met with Stan Rogers from Comcast yesterday, and we're really pleased with their enthusiastic support for the local music scene in Northern Virginia.  Look to see Goose Creek Live videos from Franklin Park on Comcast Channel 2 very soon, and we're also hoping to work with Stan and his crew to do new shows in new places.

Lynn Kasdorf finished off the new home page yesterday, and I think he did a beautiful job.  The video looks great on the page, and we'll use the graphic banner and the news feed to keep everyone up to date about what's happening at Goose Creek.

I'm sitting here tapping my foot waiting for the new Sam Grow Band Live CD's to arrive from the manufacturer...Sam and the band absolutely nailed their performances, and there's an energy to the recordings that is just difficult to get in the studio.  They were mastered by David Glasser at Airshow's Boulder studio.  You'll be able to pick them up at Sam's gigs this summer, and we'll hit iTunes, CD Baby, our own little Goose Creek Record Store, and some surprise storefronts on August 22.

Head to one of Sam's gigs near the beach this summer and pick up  CD.  Then bring it along to the launch party, and get a free DVD of his Goose Creek Live performance at Franklin Park.

Cheers,

Mike

May 19, 2009 - The Concert Series
Everyone who came, everyone who participated, everyone who hung out...thanks.  That was a blast.

We're deep into post production...Liney is sorting through layers of video every morning, and we're looking at mixes at night.  Stuart Martin and I will spend a whole day in the studio on Tuesday, going through the David Kitchen tapes (wow...he was good), and the final tweaks of Sam's live album.

Everything feels a bit like I'm going slightly too fast on a bicycle...and there's more to come.

Watch this space...cheers,

 - Mike

January, 2009 - Welcome to Goose Creek

Jeff Sherman's studio album is our first published work, and we're about to have a very busy spring recording three live albums and video shoots.  You can read about and hear the amazing music of Sam Grow, One Horse Town, and David Kitchen elsewhere on the site...this page is my chance to tell you why we're here.

We live in an tumultous era for music producers...technology has twisted the rules of the music business in all directions.  Production costs have plummeted, while the rapid evolution of communication technology and the ubiquity of our global network constantly create opportunities for performers to connect with their audiences.

We have new media outlets, devices, and distribution techniques merging to create new models for the music business.

Traditional music recording and publishing companies are struggling, as CD sales quickly decline, and download sales fail to pick up the slack.  New media outlets provide a constant stream of opportunities to publish and license recordings, but the general public often has free access to versions of an artists work, and it's not always clear how the investment in media creation is to be monetized.

People are starting to wonder if recorded music will just be free.

We've launched Goose Creek in the middle of all this confusion with confidence that we can succeed by publishing good works of music performed by gifted artists.

Our job at Goose Creek is to find the new and emerging business models that work for musicians and their fans, and to create great musical experiences for both.
